Reports.
Pete Norloff, KG4OJT is in Nova Scotia on vacation so we did not hear a treasurer’s report tonight.
John Transue, AF4PD and Ray Albers, K2HYD visited the VWS 440 repeater to investigate the hum in the audio.
Old Business.
The NAQP-CW event was held in Glyndon Park on August 5, and VWS made 25 QSOs. The rig was supplied by Mike Toia, K3MT. Jim Richey, AG4MA cooked the BBQ lunch. Thanks to Mike and Jim for your help.
Ray K2HYD reports that at the Berryville Hamfest on August 6, VWS was very successful in selling gear from the estate of Bernie Stuecker, K4XY. The proceeds go to Bernie’s XYL, Barbara, who made a generous donation to VWS. Thanks to all, especially Jim AG4MA and Ray K2HYD, for their efforts in this project. Many other VWS members were also in attendance at Berryville, enjoying the pleasant weather and shaded tailgate area. Dan KO1D won an ARRL Handbook as a door prize.
New Business.
Ray K2HYD reports that the VWS NAQP-SSB event will be held at Lake Fairfax Park on August 19, beginning around 9 AM for set-up, and operating to commence at 2 PM (through 2 AM). The rigs will be supplied by Linda AC4LT and Tom N4ZPT. Thanks, Linda and Tom.
“Vienna Wireless Society is a lunch club that does radio”
Tom Martindale, K4TCM described his plans for the BBQ: hot-dogs, burgers, and brats for lunch; shrimp and fish for dinner. Please contact Tom to render assistance in cooking and clean-up duties as he has a big job. Thanks, Tom, once again for your BBQ! Members are urged to bring their favorite side dishes and desserts.
Dan Sullivan, KO1D reports that the 146.91 repeater is back up and fully operational with 80 watts output. Let him know how it is working so he can report back to NVFMA. Send him signal reports. NVFMA is still working on the 79 machine. The 220 machine works fine. They are seeking cans for the 6-meter machine.
Program.
Mike Steussy, AE4R narrated a slide show of photos from the Dayton 2006 Hamvention, with contributions from Jim W4JTP, Kerry WA4BQM, and Ray K2HYD. We enjoyed seeing images of the goofy HF pedestrian mobile guys with antennas sticking out of their helmets, Commander SuitSat, the crowd shots in Hara Arena and in the tailgate area, the magnificent SteppIR antennas outside, the boatanchors, and of course, the ever-present Icom girls handing out free hats. Great photos, guys.
