The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – April 9, 2010

 

CALL TO ORDER

Meeting was called to order by Jim Parsons at 1935 hours.

 

VISITORS

            Steven, son of Ralph Smith, AB4RS

 

      Dale Smith; N4EDE (NOTE: He has visited the club on infrequent occasions and donated a 17 element beam to the club that was eventually transferred to Glenn for EME work.)

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Tom-N4ZPT:  EME.

            This event will take place at the OHS parking lot on Saturday, April 17 from 1200 to 1500 hours  (1600Z to 1900Z: Just in case you forgot to reset your watch.)

 

Pete-K6BFA:  QRP to the Field Picnic. 

            WIll be held at Glyndon Park, Vienna, on Saturday, April 24 beginning at 1100 hours.  Steve, N4SK, will be needing help with holding the pavilion in the morning, with setup, and cooking.

 

             Depeash, KJ4OCE, graciously volunteered to provide this assistance.

 

Pete-K6BFA:  Field Day 2010

            Task Assignment Sheet provided on the stage for individuals to volunteer for various positions and tasks needed during FD 2010.

 

            Equipment Available Sheet is provided behind the Task Assignment Sheet for any equipment you want to make available for FD 2010.

 

Pete-K6BFA:  FD 2010 Shirts, Mugs, Pins, Hats. 

            Sign up sheet on the stage -or- you may email me at K6BFA [at] viennawireless.org no later than Monday, April 12.

 

Nelson-W4BHD:  QSL Cards. 

            Nelson will assist anyone with the design of their QSL card for putting on the club QSL board or for sending to QSO contacts.  This included adding photographs to the card.

 

Pete-KG4OJT:  The club has ordered a second Honda 2000 watt generator.

 

Pete-KG4OJT:  NAQP-SSB.

            This event will be held at The Lodge at Blue Mountain Estates (near Linden, Virginia) on Saturday/Sunday, August 21/22.

 

Pete-KG4OJT:  Thanks to John, AF4PD, for preparing the VWS 2010 Club Directory.

 

Pete-KG4OJT:  FD 2010.  Making arrangement for Burke Lake Park for FD 2010.

 

Pete-KG4OJT:  Filed the annual coordinating documents with the Commonwealth as required for the incorporation of the club.

 

Bob-AJ4RS:  Bull Run Run. 

            This is a 50-mile run Saturday, April 10 at 6:30AM starting at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton.

 

Bob-AJ4RS:  BIke Ride for the Cure. 

            WIll be held on June 20.  This will be a 2 meter operation

 

Tom-N4ZPT:  Massunutten 100. 

            Will be held on May 14 weekend

 

Tom-N4ZPT:  Marine Corps Marathon: 

            Sign up begins on June 1.  Go to the MCM site to volunteer.

 

Mel-KI4WKZ:  Balloon flight workshop.

            Will be held on Friday April 16 at the OHS library at 1900 hours for the payload checkout.  Open to all.

 

John-KA4YMA:  Discussed the upcoming Tech Summit

 

Jim-AG4MA:  Ed Kessler (No call) was cleaning out his attic and broke his leg when the ladder failed.  He is donating an Ampex tape recorder with accessories. More information will be made available on the reflector.

PROGRAM

Kevin-N4KL introduced Pete Long-WB3FYR as the evening presenter with the topic of Satellite 101 (an HT Simple Guide).

            How to make satellite contacts

            Software needed

            How to work a satellite using a HT

            AMSAT website provides good information for tracking satellites

            There exists about 5 minutes (or less) in which to conduct a QSO

            Pete demonstrated a simple tripod he made for mounting the antenna
