The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – March 26, 2010

 

Meeting Place: Oakton High School Auditorium

 

Ray, KJ4CNN formally opened the meeting at 7:36 pm

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • Pete, KG4OJT:
    • presented treasurer’s report (no activity)
    • announced that he submitted Field Day reservation documents to Fairfax Park Authority
    • presented VA QSO Party statistics

 

  • Kevin, N4KL:
    • reiterated call for homebrew/soldering project

 

  • Ray, KJ4CNN:
    • announced that Pete, K6BFA needs Members’ 2010 Field Day memorabilia orders by April 9 meeting.
    • Pete will also place order for other ARRL, non-Field Day merchandize to save Members the cost of shipping and handling
    • Pete, K6BFA will start the new CW Forum at 7:00 pm, prior to the next General Membership meeting
      • future CW Forum meetings will also meet 30 minutes prior to all General Membership Meetings
      • Members who are interested in the CW Forum are encouraged to sign up for the CW Forum email list on the Club’s website
    • announced upcoming hamfests in Timonium, MD; Raleigh, NC; Georgetown, DE and Manassas, VA
    • requested that Members renew their 2010 Club membership ($25 / adult; $5 / under 18)

 

  • Bob, AJ4RS:
    • announced that Art Pond, KD4FBT is looking for amateur radio operator volunteers for the upcoming Bull Run Marathon. It is a 6-meter project. If interested, contact Bob, AJ4RS directly.
    • Announced that the June 20 ADA Bicycle Race, which starts in Reston, needs volunteers. This is a 2-meter project. If interested, contact Bob, AJ4RS directly.

 

  • Tom, N4ZPT:
    • announced that Bob, AJ4RS is the new VWS Liaison to the Fairfax ARES
    • announced that on June 1, volunteers can begin to sign up for the Marine Corps Marathon, directly on the Marine Corp website
    • announced the May 8 Dulles Airport Drill during which the Dulles repeater will be used in emergency preparedness drills. This is a 5-hr project between 7:00 am and noon.
    • announced that there will be a Reagan Airport Drill later in the Fall.

 

  • Mel, KI4WKZ:
    • announced the first High Altitude Balloon Project meeting at 7:00 pm in the Oakton High School Library
    • announced tentative launch date as May 1

 

  • Glenn, KA0ESA:
    • announced the next Earth-Moon-Earth event over the long weekend of April 16, 17 and 18. Contact Glenn directly for further information

 

  • Steve, N5SK:
    • announced that he brought in the ARRL books that Members purchased

MEETING PRESENTATION:

 

  • Kevin, N4KL:
    • introduced Dave Trachtenberg, N4WWL, the evening’s guest speaker from Air Force MARS
      • presented MARS specifics from the three military services (Army, Air Force, Navy/Marines) with emphasis on Air Force MARS
      • Dave encouraged Club Members to engage him with questions during his presentation

 

Ray, KJ4CNN formally adjourned the meeting after the presentation.
