 The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – November 13, 2009

 

Meeting Place: Oakton High School Library

 

President Jim, W4JTP formally opened the meeting at 7:40 pm

 

TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 46

 

GUESTS:         David Shanks, AJ4TJ

                        Steve Campisano, W1SMC     Steve joined VWS during the meeting!

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • Pete, KG4OJT:
    • reminded the Membership that 2010 Club Dues are being collected
    • announced that he will present the Club’s budget during the December 11th meeting for Membership approval
      • December 11th meeting will be the only general Membership meeting during December
    • updated the Membership that the Club’s October 28th participation in Vienna’s annual Halloween Parade received praise from local politicians who recognize the Club’s contribution to the town of Vienna every year
    • updated the Membership that the Sally Ride project is done every two years. As such, it will be in town again in 2011 when the Club will participate again

 

  • Ray, KJ4CNN:
    • updated the Membership about the February 28th Winterfest 2010

 

  • Bernie, N4JDF:
    •  updated the Membership about the Club’s Field Day 2009 participation
      • thanked everyone who participated
      • announced that the Club placed 5th out of 130 entries in class 4A
      • announced that the Club placed 39th out of 2,612 total Field Day 2009 entries
      • compared 2008 numbers to 2009
        • 2008: 10,370 points for 2,758 QSO’s
        • 2009: 10,958 points for 3,361 QSO’s with 120 participants
          • an increase of 603 QSO’s from 2008

 

  • Dennis, WA4QMS:
    • announced that he wants to sell two sections of 2” outside-diameter, heavy-gauge mast pipe
      • one 15-ft section
      • one 5-ft section
      • will make a good deal to sell it quickly

 

  • Pete, K6BFA:
    • reminded the Membership that he is accepting additional QSL cards for the Club’s QSL chart that will be used at public functions.
    • reminded the Membership that the NAQP CW contest will be held in his home in Vienna on the 2nd Saturday of January
      • there will be two levels of participation
        • Mentor group
        • Protégé group
    • as the Club’s Vice-President presided over the annual elections
      • Slate of Candidates
        • Incumbents:
          • Bernie, N4JDF
          • Tom, K4TCM
        • New Candidate
          • Kevin, N4KL
      • by voice vote the slate of Candidates where elected unanimously to a two-year term as Directors of the Vienna Wireless Society Amateur Radio Club

 

BREAK:

 

  • The 50/50 Contest winner was Dave, WS6W
  • Food was provided by Bob, WB4KLJ

 

MEETING PRESENTATION – Show-and-Tell of Favorite Ham Radio Stuff

 

  • Kevin, N4KL opened the floor to Members who brought vintage radio gear and other amateur radio-related COOL STUFF to gawk at. The stories told about the STUFF were as fascinating as the STUFF
