The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – October 23, 2009

 

President Jim, W4JTP formally opened the meeting at 7:40 pm

 

TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 38

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • Tom, N4ZPT:
    • reminded the Membership about the Sunday, October 25 Marine Corps Marathon. 
      • This will be the 34th running of the Marine Corps Marathon
      • The Marine Corps Marathon is the 5th largest in the United States and the 10th largest in the world
  • Kevin, N4KL:
    • Announced that next month’s meeting would include:
      • Show-and-Tell
      • Annual Board of Directors Elections
    • Suggested that Members who wanted to make a Power-Point™-like presentation but who did not have the software, could download the FREE Open Office software that is a  Power-Point™ clone from the internet
    • Announced that the next General Membership meeting on Friday, November 13 will be held in the Oakton High School LIBRARY. Members can enter the high school through Door #2 and make an immediate Right turn to get to the Library. Alternatively, Members can enter Door #1 and make an immediate Left turn to reach the Library.

 

FREE STUFF:

 

  • Brian, WV4V brought in a VHF/UHF indoor TV antenna for GIVEAWAY

 

MEETING PRESENTATION – Digital Communications at the Marine Corps Marathon on 10/25/09

 

  • Tom, N4ZPT gave an insightful slide-presentation of the ins and outs of the upcoming 26.2 mile Marine Corps Marathon. Tom’s exemplary knowledge of all things electronic (and everything else!) was evident as he meticulously outlined the various responsibilities that amateur radio operator volunteers would perform. Tom emphasized volunteers’ primary responsibility as medical-related communications with a secondary responsibility as back-up marathon communications. Audience questions were many and varied.

  • The 50/50 Contest winner was Byron, W4SSY
  • Food was provided by John, KA4YMA
