The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – October 9, 2009

 

President Jim, W4JTP formally opened the meeting at 7:40 pm

 

TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 37

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • Tom, N4ZPT:
    • reminded the Membership about the Sunday, October 25 Marine Corps Marathon. 

 

  • Pete, KG4OJT:
    • reminded the Membership about the Club’s participation in Vienna’s annual Halloween Parade starting around 6:30 pm on October 28 when the Club will provide support as in previous years.
    • announced the upcoming annual membership renewal which will be emailed to all Members

 

  • Pete, K6BFA:
    • reminded the Members that he is accepting QSL cards for the Club’s QSL board that will be used at public functions.
    • made preliminary announcement about the upcoming January NAQP Sideband contest. It will be the 12th such contest that the Club will participate in. Additional details later.
    • announced that the NAQP CW contest, also in January, will be held again in his home; provisions available for a few sleepovers.

 

  • Steve, N5SK:
    • announced that he ordered ten hardback copies of the ARRL 2010 Handbook which should be in by the first November meeting.

 

  • Glenn, KA0ESA:
    • wants to start an Earth-Moon-Earth project for a Dec 5th and 6th show time
    • wants to build a mobile ham shack and is looking for computer-savvy volunteers

 

BREAK:

 

  • The 50/50 Contest winner was Jim, KF4OD
  • Food was provided by Bob, AJ4RS

 

MEETING PRESENTATION – High Frequency Active Auroral Research (HAARP)

 

  • Steve Floyd, W4YHD made a wonderful slide presentation of his participation with the Alaska-based HAARP.project at the Ionospheric Research Institute. There were plenty of questions from the Membership and appreciative applause at the end.

 

President Jim, W4JTP formally adjourned the meeting after the presentation.
