MEETING PRESENTATION – 2 TO 16 GHz FEEDS FOR RADIO ASTRONOMY

  • President Jim, W4JTP announced that Mike, AE4R, the Club’s Program Chair, had formally resigned his position after many years of faithful service to the Club.  Mike briefly recounted his very positive experience as the Program Chair, to which he received a thunderous round of applause from the Membership.

  • Mike, AE4R introduced Kerry, WA4BQM, the Club’s favorite astronomer.  The good doctor presented a fascinating program, with informative slides, of the technical advances that have been made with regard to the Feeds of radio astronomy receivers.  Although some of the presentation was very technical, Kerry’s presentation made the material understandable to even the most humble amateur radio operators while also maintaining the interest of the Club’s most technical Members.  Kerry concluded the evening with a quick discussion of the latest information on the sun spots, highlighting historical data as well as many of today’s projections including some of the less-than-accurate projections that have been made by modern astronomers.
