ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Pete, K6BFA reported that the CQ VHF Contest which was held nearLinden, VA on Sat & Sun, July 18 & 19 was a success;

  • Pete, K6BFA:
    • announced to the Membership that the NAQP-CW Contest will be held at his home on Sat & Sun, Aug 1 & 2.  CW operators as well as “almost-cw” operators are welcome to attend since this will be an excellent opportunity to listen and learn.  A sign-up sheet was provided to ensure that Pete had an adequate supply of chocolate-chip cookies for Members who would attend.
    • reminded the Membership about the upcoming, nine-day ILLW (International Lighthouse/Lightship) Contest which will include all modes of operation, ie, phone, cw, digital, etc.  Jim Richey, AG4MA is the contact for the Jones Point lighthouse and should be contacted if any Member is interested in participating in the contest.  Jim registered the Club’s K4HTA call with the International Lighthouse organization.
    • reminded the Membership about submitting QSL cards to him for his public relation’s display board.

  • Pete, KG4OJT:
    • announced that the NAQP-SSP Contest will be held from 2:00 pm Sat, Aug 15th until 2:00 am Sun, Aug 16th at Lake Fairfax Park.  The location will be the same as last year by the lake.  The Club will set up two Icom 746 rigs at 100W or less.  Pete, KG4OJT and Tom, N4ZPT each will bring an 80-meter Windom antenna. The plan is to arrive between 9:00 and 10:00 am on Saturday morning to set up the tents and the equipment and, of course, to picnic. Dinner will be around 6:00 pm.
    • updated the Membership on the matter of silent key Chester Summit’s amateur radio estate, which the Club attempted to sell in times past. Because of scheduling conflicts with widow Kay Summit, the sale of the equipment was never completed.  With Mrs. Summit’s renewed interest in selling the equipment, Pete asked for a volunteer who would become responsible for coordinating the sale.  Because of the many projects that the Club is presently involved with, the lack of a volunteer would result in the Club advising Mrs. Summit that we would be unable to facilitate a sale.
    • announced to the Membership that he received a $500 donation from the Town of Vienna which will go towards the continued operation of the Club’s Repeaters.
    • advised the Membership that the Club generated $3,896 from the sale of Dick Rucker’s amateur radio equipment. He thanked Mrs. Rucker for her generous donation of $779 to the Club.
    • advised the Membership that he sent the Winterfest 2010 check to NVCC.
    • advised the Membership that printed copies of the Membership Directory are still available to Members for $4.

  • Sheila, KI4WKY reminded the Membership of the Aug 27th Club Banquet at the Marco Polo Restaurant in Vienna where the cost per adult has remained $26.  Pre-teens will be served for free! The price is all-inclusive except for alcohol, which Members will have to purchase separately.  Sheila has also arranged for the ever-popular Ham Radio Bingo with three prizes (two good prizes and one booby prize). Members are encouraged to submit their money to Pete, KG4OJT before the Banquet. Members who pay at the door (discouraged!) MUST do so with CASH ONLY.
