The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – May 22, 2009

 

Presiding Member, Tom, N4ZPT formally opened the meeting at 7:35 pm.

 

TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 37

 

GUESTS: 1: Bob Widmaier, K3JOP.  After the meeting, Bob became a VWS member.  Welcome Aboard, Bob!

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • Pete, KG4OJT announced that in the absence of Pete, K6BFA, Members who had not yet picked up their 2009 Field Day memorabilia could pick up their purchases at the front of the stage.
  • Pete, KG4OJT announced that copies of the VWS Membership roster were still available in printed booklet format for $4.00.
  • Bernie, N4JDF, the Club’s Field Day ’09 Chairman, announced that all systems were proceeding as planned and that the VWS Field Day website had been updated with all volunteer positions-to-date noted.  Bernie added that he still needed a number of volunteers for the Sunday Tear-Down after Field Day .  He then apprised the Membership of the possibility of a digital presence at Field Day .  Further information to be released as it develops.
  • Tom, N4ZPT reminded the Membership of the Club’s Digital Net, which is held every Tuesday at 8:00 pm (3,577 kHz, USB, 2kHz offset).
  • Pete, KG4OJT announced the Club’s assistance with selling the ham gear of Silent Key, Dick Rucker.  Pete showed slides of the equipment to the Membership and noted that the items can be viewed on the net at http://www.viennawireless.org/rucker .  Bids for the equipment can be made to rucker @ viennawireless.org .  The auction for the equipment will be finalized at the June 12th meeting that will be held in the Oakton High School cafeteria.

FREE GIVEAWAYS: Tom, N4ZPT and Pete, KG4OJT (courtesy of his Dad) donated free ham radio magazines to the Membership.  Thank you Tom and Pete.

  • Refreshments and the potential for caloric abuse was provided by Tim, KI4PVF.

MEETING PRESENTATION

 

  • Tom, N4ZPT attended the recent Hamvention at Dayton.  Tom and other VWS Members who also attended, took many, interesting photos of the two-day affair which were then compiled into an interesting and informative photo presentation.  Members asked many questions about Dayton and engaged Tom and other Dayton attendees in a discussion that was lively and entertaining.  For those Members who were unable to attend Dayton, Tom’s presentation was a good substitute.

Presiding Member, Tom, N4ZPT formally closed the meeting at 9:30 pm.
