ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Rick N6CY, our Field Day Boss announced that with our club sign-in sheet, he was also including Field Day Food sign-up sheets for Saturday, June 27th (Lunch and Dinner) and Sunday, June 28th (Breakfast and Lunch). You are to put your name down for the meals that you plan to eat so they can get an idea of how many people to feed. There is also an area to sign up to help prepare, serve and clean up.
Rick then also added that all station captains still need help for both operating and logging. A sign-up sheet is being passed around for that. 2 members need to be signed up for each time slot.
Rick once again brought his Field Day board presentation showing the overlay operating and antenna plans.
2. Jack WA4FXX (of the Arlington Radio Club) announced that his club would be having Field Day at the Red Cross Center located at 4333 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22203 (703) 527-3010 and invited VWS members to come visit them also.
3. Gary KI4EKM had several copies of our Field Day Press Release/Invitation to send or give to governmental or political individuals that members might know of. He said copies are there for the taking. If you have any questions about contacting someone, please ask Gary for help.
4. Pete KG4OJT our Treasurer then gave the following reports:
(a) He passed around our Proposed and Revised Budget for 2008 and explained the new modifications. Then he proposed that we revise our budget based on these new numbers.
This was approved by the membership 100%.
(a) The club received a thank-you letter for the $320 donation that was sent to the American Lung Cancer Society on behalf of former member Alan Bosch. ($100 from club & $220 member donations.)
(b) Vienna Elementary School PTA sent a thank-you to us for our support during their Fun Run event. We sent them $200. ($100 from the club, $100 from member donations.)
(c) He also presented documents from club attorney Dan Gropper KC4OCG giving us notice of acceptance regarding our Winterfest trademark. This is good for three years and must be renewed by February 26, 2011.
(d) We’ve received our permit for our upcoming NAQP event at Lake Fairfax. We have a new location, which is on a rise just above the lake and should provide good antenna supports. However, there is no electricity; so, the club will be using generators. And, we will be getting a porta-potty.
(e) He has set up our club meeting dates for the summer at the Vienna Community Center. And, also the club meeting dates for the 2008-2009 school year at the Vienna Elementary School.
5. Ray K5RJ announced that if any member has QSL cards, to give them to him.
6. Macalee AB5TY mentioned that after many years of NN3SI operating from the Smithsonian, they are closing down July 31. Contrary to earlier reports, they are no longer accepting visiting operators.
7. Kerry WA4BQM mentioned that time is closing in on submitting articles for the “Leading Edge.” The deadline is June 27th but he’ll accept submissions up until it to goes to press.
8. Ray K5RJ mentioned that he saw someone with a T-shirt with the logo of “Winterfest” on it and asked about it. It was then stated that our trademark of “Winterfest” ONLY applies to Ham Radio events and not to other organizations that might use it for any other kind of activity.
10. Lee KD4RE, our Field Day Top Chef, announced a request for a canopy to help provide protection in the food area in case we get bad weather.
PRESENTATION:
Program Director, Mike AE4R became Mr. Auctioneer with the help of Tom N4ZPT assisting with items that were donated to the club by Mary Ann (former member Alan Bosch KO4ALA’s widow).
(Some items were given to Thomas Jefferson High School and some to club member Ben Gelb KF4KJQ as per Alan’s wishes.)
They also had a “free table” filled with items for the taking.
The auction contained items that were described as “classic” to “cute.” But they all found a nice new home thanks to those that bid. The auction was not only fun but also a very dignified tribute to a former member that was so very well loved and respected.
Larger items donated will be photographed with plans for an on-line auction to be held at a future date.
REFRESHMENTS:
Steve N5SK once again provided us with drinks, hot dogs, munchies and sweets. Many thanks!
