The turkey gobbler called to order the meeting at 7:30 pm by our President, Jim W4JTP.
ATTENDANCE: 31
NEW VISITORS:
We had two new visitors this week:
Macalee Hime, AB5TY, has moved back to this area after living in Texas for a number of years. She worked as a railroad telegrapher years ago and has had numerous radio experiences.
(Albert) Ken Deal, K3FJJ, also has moved to our area, coming from New Jersey.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Len, KG6ZR, the club secretary, has resigned due to health concerns. Sheila, KI4WKY, has accepted the board of directors nomination and stepped in to fill the void for the rest of the year by taking the minutes of our meetings. (So if there are errors or something is missed, talk to her!)
2. Dan, KO1D, informed us about upcoming events, such as the Marine Corp. Marathon, Sunday October 28.
3. Pete, KG4OJT, said that the auction we had raised $3,332.00 for the widow, Kay Summitt. And, that the phone bill for our repeater has been paid!
He also reminded everyone about the upcoming Vienna Halloween parade on 10/24 and volunteers were still needed. They will meet around 5:00 pm at the Suntrust Bank.
4. Dennis, WA4QMS – The Winterfest Boss, once again stated that he needed someone to help take calls for table sales and explained those duties.
5. Jim, W4JTP, also reminded everyone that on November 9, we would be holding elections for next year’s Board of Directors. Anyone interested is to speak up! However, the location for this meeting is still undetermined, since the Elementary school will be having PTA activities that Friday and we can’t be there.
6. The mission patch for our tentatively scheduled Balloon Launch VWS-5 in November was brought by Mel, KI4WKZ, (he suggested and Sheila, KI4WKY designed) for members to look at.
NET REPORT:
Jim, W14A, hosted the Monday 2m Net at 8:00 pm on the 146.685 repeater.
PRESENTATION:
Mike, AE4R, did a presentation on “The Battle of Midway” with a 15-minute B&W movie, followed by a projector photo show of rare photos of both the US and Japanese battleships. This was in honor of the Navy’s birthday the following day, October 13.
REFRESHMENTS:
Brian WV4V provided the drinks, munchies and other goodies for this meeting. No one volunteered to provide them for our next meeting. (So eat a big supper before coming!)
