January 8 & 9, 2011 (CW)
January 15 & 16, 2011 (SSB)
NAQP-CW
Join in the fun of Coffee, Cookies, Conversation and (incidentally) Code
at the NAQP-CW event. You don’t have to drive very far; just to 500 Park St.,
NE, Vienna (the cul-de-sac end of Park Street). Even if you don’t know the code
or feel proficient enough to do it on your own, we will have mentors who will
help you make your first contest contact. Even if you don’t know the code or
feel proficient enough to do it on your own, you can actively participate in the
contest by doing the logging function. Without the Loggers, we can’t score any
points. And then there are those who contribute with their Comments and
Conversation. This is an event for serious and not-so-serious contesters. There
is something for everyone.
We will have the new FlexRadio 1500 operating
so you can see the SDR in action and get some time operating with it. And also
the Kenwood TS-2000 will be available. If you wish, bring your favorite key to operate with in
the contest.
Come by anytime from 1:00 PM Saturday (or earlier) and stay
until 12:59 AM Sunday (probably not later). We will be working late to get that
last QSO. Really, it’s a lot of fun (and you don't have to know code).
Contact Pete, K6BFA if you're interested in this event.
NAQP-SSB
We're very happy to report that we have reserved the Oak Lodge at Camp
Highroad near Middleburg, VA for the North American QSO Party on January 15
& 16, 2011. This is the same facility we used last year, less than an hour
from Vienna in a rural area at the top of a hill..
Please be sure to mark your calendar with the dates and plan to come out and
get in some operating time. It would be particularly good if we had a number of
us planning on working the late hours from 1:00 PM until 1:00 AM.
We're also happy that we'll have the same catering that we had there the last
two times we've used the facility.
We'll start collecting a list of
names and payment for lunch and dinner soon. Prices for lunch and dinner will be
announced later. Stayed tuned to the NAQP reflector for updated news.
For those of us who haven't attended one of our NAQP operations before, we'll
be setting up two radio stations with wire antennas in the trees. The contest
begins at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 15, and runs until 1:00 AM on Sunday,
January 16. Camp Highroad has plenty of rooms in the lodge for everyone who'd
like to stay over.
We'll be making as many radio contacts as we comfortably can with more of an
emphasis on getting people on the radio and having a good time than in squeezing
out the last contact.
Stay tuned to the NAQP mailing list for planning and updates, or contact Ray
Anderson, KJ4CNN
