Meetings

The Vienna Wireless Society meets on the second and fourth Fridays of the month at the Oakton High School which is located at 2900 Sutton Road. Meetings start at 7:30PM. Refreshments will be served. Visitors are always welcome!

Directions to Oakton High School:

The school is located on Sutton Road, which intersects with Route 123. Take the Nutley Street exit off of Interstate 66 toward Vienna. Make a left onto 123 (heading South) and contine to the second traffic light. Make a left turn at Sutton Road and continue to a 4 way stop, just past ball fields on your right. Turn Right at the 4 way stop and park in front of the school (in large parking lot along the East side of the building). Look for door 2. Enter Door 2, and proceed to the Lecture Hall on the left.

The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – January 22, 2010   Meeting Place: Oakton High School Auditorium   President Jim, W4JTP formally opened the meeting at 7:38                            TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 42   GUEST: Doug Birdsong, no call   ANNOUNCEMENTS:   Pete, KG4OJT: updated Membership about recent NAQP SSB contest 40 participants; 20 operators record number of QSO’s   Pete, K6BFA: asked Members for QSL cards that will be displayed at Winterfest 2010 updated Membership about recent NAQP cw contest advanced as well as beginning cw operators participated 292 QSO’s recorded   Ray, KJ4CNN: updated the Membership about the February 28th Winterfest 2010   Tom, N4ZPT: updated the Membership about the planning of the Marine Corps Marathon registration for volunteers starts on June 1 on Marine Corps website updated the Membership about Fairfax ARES welcomes volunteer help meet every 4th Tuesday of every month   Jim, W4JTP: updated the Membership about the transfer of Club’s Repeater’s responsibilities from John, AF4PD to Skip, KF4ZXX thanked John, AF4PD for his exemplary service to the Club   Kevin, N4KL: Club’s Homebrew Challenge continues not limited to cw transmitter; may be anything built by Ham will be judged during first meeting of July   BREAK:   FREEBIES: Tom, N4ZPT offered free ARRL Digital literature to Members Free QST magazines from the Vern Hill (sk) estate) were available   50/50 Winner (2) David, K3MV Byron, W4SSY   Snacks provided by Bob, WB4KLJ   SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:   Kevin, N4KL: gave a special tribute to Dick Rucker (sk), KM4ML announced that ham equipment from Dave, K2VX (sk) will be auctioned during the Club’s next meeting meeting will be held in school’s library   MEETING PRESENTATION:   Ralph, AB4RS made a Powerpoint® presentation about ADS-B, The Next Generation of Aviation Surveilance   engaged Membership in Q&A session   President Jim, W4JTP formally adjourned the meeting after the presentation.   Respectfully submitted by: Ray Anderson, KJ4CNN Secretary, VWS   -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

The Vienna Wireless Society General Membership Meeting – January 8, 2010   Meeting Place: Oakton High School Auditorium   President Jim, W4JTP formally opened the meeting   TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 41   GUEST: Arlen Weishuhn, N5HPP   ANNOUNCEMENTS:   Pete, K6BFA: reminded Members of upcoming NAQP CW contest that will be held at his home coffee, cookies, soda pop, good conversation and camaraderie to be provided asked for one additional 2010 Food Volunteer three new volunteers are: Pam, KB9SCM Bob, WB4KLJ Gary, KI4EKM asked Members for QSL cards that will be affixed to public display board   Pete, KG4OJT: reminded Members about upcoming NAQP SSB contest at Highpoint in Middleburg asked that Members bring stack of firewood for fireplace Club will raise Pete’s, KG4OJT 80m & Tom’s, N4ZPT 160m Windom antennas event’s lunch and dinner to be catered by Jane Nelson from Starlight Catering   Ray, KJ4CNN: updated the Membership about the February 28th Winterfest 2010   Jim, KF4OD: announced that he and Glenn, KA0ESA have started a new EME reflector for those interested Jim and Glenn plan on doing two EME events per year   Mike, AE4R: showed off a homebrew, 40m cw transmitter that he purchased at a hamfest the unit was unfinished by the previous owner; Mike will finish building it the unit was built with all brand-new parts although much wiring has yet to be done   President Jim, W4JTP: On behalf of the Membership of VWS, Jim presented Mike, AE4R with a Special Service Plaque for his past, exemplary service as the Club’s Program Coordinator BREAK:   FREEBIES: Tom, N4ZPT offered free amateur radio magazines to Members   50/50 Winner  Dennis, WA4QMS Dennis donated his winnings to the Club’s treasury   Snacks provided by Pete, K6BFA   SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:   Kevin, N4KL announced: that the next General Membership Meeting on January 22nd will be held in the school’s library that SK Dave Wiesen’s, K2VX ham gear will be auctioned to meeting attendees during the February 5th General Membership Meeting   MEETING PRESENTATION:   Rick, N6CY made a presentation on the proper and most efficient manners of working radio contests. offered operating examples for using N1MM logger software offered operator efficiency examples engaged Membership in Q&A session   President Jim, W4JTP formally adjourned the meeting after the presentation.   Respectfully submitted by: Ray Anderson, KJ4CNN Secretary, VWS   -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
