This meeting was also the Club's annual Christmas party where Members brought food to be enjoyed by everyone.   Pete, KG4OJT: Presented the Treasurer-prepared Budget for Membership approval Budget was approved unanimously by Membership   Pete, K6BFA, Vice President: Thanked the Members who volunteered to be on the Snack Committee Asked Members for their QSL cards to be displayed on the Club's public display placard   Jim, W4JTP, President' Officiated over the annual Board of Directors election Incumbents: Tom, K4TCM Kevin, N4KL Bernie, K4JDF Self-nominations prior to the meeting Pete, K6BFA Ray, KJ4CNN Secret ballot vote winners: Kevin, N4KL (director through 2013) Pete, K6BFA (director through 2013) Tie vote: Bernie, K4JDF Ray, KJ4CNN Tie-breaker vote winner: Ray, KJ4CNN (director through 2013)   Refreshments provided by the Membership   MEETING PRESENTATION:   Kevin, N4KL introduced the meeting's Show and Tell session Show and Tell presenters: Mike, AE4R Ron, WA6YOU Mel, KI4WKZ John, KJ4YHC John, K3US by way of Pete, K6BFA Pete, K6BFA Kevin, WB0POH Pam, KB9SCM Lee, KD4RE Jacob, KB1FF Scott, KD4EBL Kerry, WA4BQM   Jim, W4JTP formally adjourned the meeting after the presentation.   Respectfully submitted by: Ray Anderson, KJ4CNN Secretary, VWS   -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-    http://www.viennawireless.org/notes.php?id=204 Ray Anderson 2011-11-11 VWS Membership Minutes 11/11/11 7:09 PM Meeting called order by Pete K6BFA Moment of silence for VWS members Darren Morrell (no call) and Jerry Shadle WA3UTL.  Acknowledgement of our US Veterans Minutes to Meetings – Accepted without opposition Pete (KG4OJT) - Treasurer's report – Approaching end of 2011 and Board of Directors was looking at club finances.  Want to modify budget for 2011.  ·        Reason – they stopped the funding of the scholarships due to short finances.  Now they have an opportunity to add it back in again.  ·        Per attached budget, a motion is being solicited to add $3000 to a scholarship fund.  Additional info:  we had $17k up to 9 years ago, now (with CDs), we have reached $32k.  We have spent $3000 less than was specific.  We got more donations than expected.  ·        Suggestion from floor that VA students be given first priority.  o       Pete indicated that the first requirement was that the recipient be a licensed amateur radio operator.  Otherwise, leave it as open as possible.  The concern from the Board of Directors was that a VA ham with less need would be chosen by a MD or DC ham with more need.  ·        Someone mentioned history that we ran out of money for scholarships.  o       Committee indicated they were doing a one-time 2-scholarship ($1500/scholarship) ·        Committee has Moved, Seconded and Approved with one opposed. Bob (AJ4RS) Public Service:  MCM was a success.  Biggest comment:  where were the injuries?  There were no fatalities.  Successful effort. Pete delivered President Report from Jim (W4JFP):  Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech. Pete (K6BFA) SKYWARN Project:  Three went through basic and Severe Weather Storms spotter training.  Discussed what was learned at the meetings – including El Nino.  Kevin WB0POH and Regis KF4PIY brought refreshments  ARRL Hardcover handbooks and hardcover Antenna books are available.  Selling them for $45 each, $85 for both + $10.95 repeater directory for free.   Also have a new book for the small antennas for small spaces for $23.  Any sales goes to VWS. QCWA meeting on 11/19 – Ray K5RJ will be performing an auction.   Neighbors Restaurant, 11:30 CW Key – being shown.  No springs – all done with magnets.
