Next VWS Meeting - December 9th, 2011

The next meeting of the Vienna Wireless Society will be this Friday, December 9, at 7:00 pm, in the Cafeteria of Oakton High School at 2900 Sutton Road.

Officially, this is our Annual Meeting, probably one of our most important get-together of the year. Why?

--------------------------------------- IT’S ELECTION NIGHT We will elect three members to the Club’s five-person Board of Directors for a term of two years. The three incumbents are standing for re-election:

Kevin Lewis N4KL Tom Martindale K4TCM Bernie Wimmers K4JDF

Per our By-Laws, additional nominations may be submitted to the President up until the meeting is officially called to order. The candidates must agree to both be nominated and serve if elected. (No submitting somebody else’s name “just because.”)

--------------------------------------- IT’S BUDGET NIGHT

Treasurer Pete Norloff KG4OJT will submit the club’s 2012 budget for approval.

Note that only fully paid members for 2011 (including those holding Life Membership) are eligible to vote on both the budget and the Directors.

--------------------------------------- IT’S HOLIDAY PARTY NIGHT

Nooowwwww, we’re getting’ to the important stuff!

As usual, calories are the best gift we can give each other. So, in the spirit of “it is better to give than to receive,” V-Pete K6BFA is making the assignments for “Ye Merry Gentlemen and Gentlewomen” for the division of labor in preparing for this event.

If the first letter of your callsign suffix begins with A through H,(i.e., W3AAA through W3HZZ), please bring SNACKS and side dishes. This could be chips, dips, nuts, or other fattening delights.

If the first letter of your callsign suffix begins with I through P, please bring a HOT DISH (for about 8 people). A suggestion could be Grandma's Famous Meat Balls with Sauce or other fattening delights.

If the first letter of your callsign suffix begins with Q through Z, please bring DESSERTS. You will be contributing to the other fattening delights from above. (If you counted the letters in each category, the curious can note which category has the most letters).

If you don’t have a call sign, join in one of the groups of your choice.

--------------------------------------- IT’S SHOW-N-TELL NIGHT

Another VWS tradition for December is the program—Show-N-Tell. This can be anything—something you’ve built, a favorite QSL card, a mystery item you picked up at a hamfest, an operating tale, a cherished boatanchor you’ve reacquired/brought back to life…you name it.

Because of the number of items we have had in the past, it would be beneficial if you could prepare a card (5 x 8 inch) with the story written on it. Then, if we don’t have enough time to get to everyone’s tale and treasure, we will still be able to enjoy the story.

Next VWS Meeting-November 11, 2011 ***7:00 PM***

The next meeting of the Vienna Wireless Society will be this Friday,November 11, at 7:00 pm, in the Library of Oakton High School at 2900 Sutton Road.

Yes that’s right, we’re starting at 7:00 pm. With Oakton hosting Lake Braddock in a football playoff game at 7:30, we figured this might help members get a head start on what is sure to be limited parking at the high school.

So the earlier you can arrive, the better. Might be a good opportunity to try out the CW Forum, which is also meeting a half-hour earlier, at 6:30 pm.

And note too that we’re in the Library this time, not the Lecture Hall.

Kevin N4KL will have a video about a Class 50A Field Day Station. That’s right—50 transmitters. How do you do that? Attend the meeting and find out.

Also on the agenda will be a proposal to modify the club’s current year budget.
