Due to flight restrictions the seventh VWS high altitude balloon flight has been shifted to the alternate date of Saturday, December 6th, 2008. Likely launch time would be 9AM near Strasburg, VA. If winds or weather scrub the launch the alternative day is Sunday, December 7th. Flight predictions will be started two weeks from launch. Vienna Halloween Parade, Wed, October 29, 2008
Posted By Pete Norloff on October 7th, 2008
It's time again for the Vienna Halloween Parade.

This year again we're charged with both providing communications along the route and shepherding the Costumed Kids along the parade route.

The Vienna Halloween Parade is a fun and low key event that allows us to help our town and have a little fun in the process.

We need about 12 of us to help out. We'll have operators stationed at the judging stand at Mill St on the Town Green, at the Patrick Henry Library at Center St where the parade ends, shadowing the Parade Committee Chairman, plus six of us in with the Costumed Kids at the front, middle, and back of the pack.

This is an HT event because we have good coverage from our 146.685 repeater all along the parade route. Things do tend to be very noisy however, so a speaker mic or headset will be very useful.

For everyone who's come out and worked this event before, you know there isn't a large amount of communications traffic, but we do our part to help out and our efforts are always appreciated by a grateful organizing committee.

Please contact Pete Norloff, KG4OJT, if you'd like to come out and join in the fun at the Vienna Halloween Parade.

Because of construction, VWS must replace our regular meeting location at the Vienna Elementary School for the next two years.

Starting October 1 through December 31, 2008 we will be meeting at the Vienna Community Center.

If anyone has a suggestion please contact a board member.
