There will be no meeting on Friday, June 27th to allow members time to put up antennas and set up other needed items for our annual Field Day operations this weekend at Burke Lake. VWS members and visitors of all ages, are invited to come experience Ham radio operations in several different modes; and, eat! (See “Field Day” link on the left for more information).

Our next meeting will be Friday, July 11 at our summertime meeting spot, The Vienna Community Center, beginning at 7:30 pm.

May 10, 2008 Fox Hunt -- Fun, Frustrating & Moist!
Posted By Sheila Clarke on May 13th, 2008
The Vienna Wireless Society held its first Fox Hunt for this year on Saturday, May 10. This was a fun, frustrating and moist event.

Several members came to Nottoway Park eagerly touting their HTs with either purchased or handmade DF antennas. We had antennas of all shapes and sizes! Jim AG4MA and Tom K4TCM arrived earlier to hide four 30 mw CW transmitters, made by a few VWS members, that send ID’s for 30 seconds around the park. And, hide them they did! Although they claimed to be “in plain sight” some of us couldn’t find them at all! Some of us found a couple. And, some found them all. But whether we found them or not, all of us got a bit wet tramping through the mud and soggy wet grass due to the rain we had the previous day. This was known as the real agony of da feet.

Afterwards we all sat down to a lunch provided by Jim AG4MA that consisted of very delicious BBQ baby back ribs, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, cake, etc.

Wisdom gained from this event will be used to help us in any future Fox Hunts the club might have.
